The Gonzales Rural Fire Protection District has served the rural area surrounding the City of Gonzales since 1950. The District's boundaries cover a total of 58 square miles. In 2010, this rural area contained an estimated population of 619. The small size of the District does not allow it to economically maintain independent fire protection service, so the District Board of Directors has contracted with the City of Gonzales to provide fire protection and emergency medical services within District boundaries. Mission By contracting for services, the Gonzales Rural Fire Protection District joins the City of Gonzales Fire Department's commitment to protecting life and property. History The Gonzales Rural Fire Protection District was formed on 18 December 1950, for the purpose of providing fire protection to all property lying within the District's boundaries. Since 1997 the District has contracted with the City of Gonzales to provide these services, which today includes emergency medical services response as well as fire protection. |
